In 2024, GSS Contracts is an accredited Contractor of Choice for various local and national retailers. However, GSS does not take this status for granted. In fact, knowing that it can take years to build that trust between Client and Contractor, GSS continues to work hard at maintaining great relationships and retaining each client by delivering great project performance, time and time again.
So how do you get to work with GSS? There is no set formula for getting started. It could be a request for a GSS Service Engineer to attend an equipment breakdown, a simple low-cost repair. Alternatively, GSS could receive tender documents for a large-scale, complex project. The choice is yours. Dependent on the nature of the client request, GSS will assign key personnel from the appropriate department to follow through and complete the process. (including Pre-Planned Maintenance).
GSS Contracts field-based Service Engineers operate across the UK attending to Refrigeration and Air Conditioning equipment breakdowns. Using up-to-date information technology, service calls are sent to each Service Engineer based on vehicle location and availability. Each client and its sites are set up at the Help Desk in East Kilbride to ensure all equipment response times can be monitored. Field-based Service Engineers carry base stock in each vehicle, and this is complemented by the supply chain agreements in place with UK-wide industry wholesalers. This allows GSS to meet the equipment repair target times set by each client.
A natural development in the GSS Contracts business was the creation of the Shopfitting Department. It became clear at an early stage of our Projects expansion that having a Shopfitting team was a complementary fit. This allowed GSS to have complete control of every component in the Project Plan. The client benefitted from this in-house activity also with GSS able to complete the installation of key areas of the client store only requiring one contractor. The turnkey solution from GSS. This activity has been expanded into cabinet refurbishment and repair. GSS has extended its facility in East Kilbride to facilitate the move into Refrigeration cabinet refurbishment.
(Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Cold Rooms)
Enquiries for more complex projects will be allocated to a GSS Project Manager to take ownership of the process from start to finish. Essentially, the GSS Project Manager will be responsible for expediting all the necessary documentation required to ensure a full turnkey project. This will include preparing all site drawings and carrying out any site visits deemed necessary. Co-ordinating the team, each Project Manager will be responsible for producing the Project Plan. Scheduling of Equipment, Transport, Resources is evaluated, all based on availability. Liaising with the Client to ensure key trading dates can be met. The GSS Project Manager will stay with the project through the Commissioning stage and hand over to the Service Department. Only then can the sign-off process be completed, and final documentation produced.
As the GSS Contracts business has grown and expanded over the past 10 years, with particular emphasis to its growing presence in the Convenience retail sector, it was only a matter of time before the business would expand its locations across the UK. This has been achieved by extending the existing facility in East Kilbride and opening another a warehouse facility in the Central Midlands of England and a satellite Service office in York. As the vehicle fleet grew through our Service Engineer network, commercial vehicles have been added to complement the Project Installation activity. More recently GSS invested in a curtain-side commercial vehicle that can ship all equipment for major installations thus reducing the business need for third-party transport.
