GSS Contracts was asked to provide a full turnkey Refrigeration and Air Conditioning solution as part of its procurement request from a leading National Convenience Retailer.
The project was broken down into 5 workstreams:

Along with the Cabinet specification, GSS Contracts was asked to ensure the operating equipment met the latest industry standards in terms of energy efficiency and the use of natural refrigerants. This was achieved across the whole installation.
A turnkey Installation that GSS Contracts managed between its Installation and Logistics teams before handing over to the Service team at the commissioning stage.
Underpinning the entire project is the installation of a state-of-the-art Remote Monitoring System. This ensures the client has the knowledge and confidence that any alarm condition is acted upon immediately by GSS Contracts. The client also benefits from the data storage within the controller that helps them meet its Cold Chain requirements.
When a long-established, independent retailer decided to upgrade the Refrigeration equipment within its Food Hall after 20 years of trading, it was GSS Contracts they turned to. The client had a clear understanding of what they were looking to achieve in terms of the look and feel of the store. Following initial discussions around store layout, GSS Contracts were able to turn this into a fully specified Refrigeration design to ensure they had captured the complete scope of the project for the client’s comments, changes and subsequent approval.
Once project approval was received, GSS Contracts Supply, Installation and Logistics teams, under the direction of the dedicated Project Manager, were mobilised to carry out the approved scope of work to the agreed timetable. This was achieved through a collaborative approach working with various contractors on site. The project was planned for final commissioning and handover before the key trading period of Christmas 2023. A successful outcome for the Client.
The emergence of Convenience retail in the petrol forecourt sector has seen significant growth in the past decade. The food offer has been expanded considerably to give the customer more choice. From buying a few snacks for the car journey to doing a weekly shop, modern PFS Convenience retail has it all.
So, when a major client in the Northwest of England decided on a Convenience offer that would include in-house Bakery, Butchery and Food-to-Go, they turned to GSS Contracts for advice, equipment selection and store refrigeration design.
Following a short consultancy period, GSS Contracts carried out a full-store refrigeration fit-out that included full-glass door merchandising refrigerated cabinets displaying a full selection of chilled and frozen products. Back-of-house coldrooms were installed to hold all stock necessary for cabinet stock replenishment too.
The store, part of a 40-strong retail chain, quickly became a flagship store for the client. The store design and fit-out has been pivotal in the planning of new developments and considered for retrospective store refurbishments. Look at the GSS Contracts installation and see for yourself.
As an employer, there is a responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for your employees. This also means providing a comfortable working space too. For many large companies across the UK, this is a prerequisite requirement.
Keeping up to date with current building legislation and the latest environmental standards is a challenge to any employer. However, forging a positive working relationship with your Service provider means having access to advice and assistance, when you need it.
So, when a key retail client needed help with how to go about the heating and cooling of its Head Office facility, it was GSS Contracts they turned to. Once an initial project brief had been outlined and agreed, GSS Contracts designed an Air Conditioning system that would provide the required heating and cooling to all offices, meeting rooms and training rooms.
The project was completed with minimal interruption to employees working within the offices. GSS carried out the installation in daytime and out of hours periods to accommodate the business needs. The ongoing service and maintenance of the equipment has been underpinned by agreeing a 3-year warranty period thus ensuring optimum efficiency of the equipment is achieved.
With a growing estate of over 600 stores, a well-known National retailer appointed GSS Contracts as its dedicated Refrigeration supply-chain partner for all its new stores and store refits across the UK.
Working with the GSS Contracts Installation and Logistics teams, our client has refined its customer food offer, by installing the latest High-temperature and Low-temperature refrigerated cabinets in each of its stores.
GSS Contracts is now an established contractor in the client’s store new-build and store refit roll-out programme. Another client is entrusting the GSS Contracts business.
